Life affirming, heart warming, and sensuality arousing color, that is red, is everywhere to be found literally and metaphorically at The Oberoi Mumbai.
From the modern design sensibilities, to the heart felt welcome, to the red of the sofa and runner on the table, that the welcome amenity had at the desk in my spacious, sea-view room.
Red is the color of fire and blood.
It has long been associated with energy, danger, war, strength, and power.
It also signifies determination, passion, desire, and love.
An emotionally intense color, it is believed that it enhances human metabolism, increases our respiration rate, and raises blood pressure. But do not hold me to these “truths”.
Red represents physical energy. Symbolizing lust, passion, and desire as well as courage, confidence and action.
There is no doubt that red is an intense color, packed with emotions ranging from passionate love to intense anger and sometimes also violence.
Interestingly enough, it can represent both the Devil and Cupid. It is yin yang in one. It is the very essence of being human, and it is a reflector of our human struggle, our journey, our existence.
Walking through the different parts of the hotel, one is never too cold emotionally or physically. The hotel robs one of any and all sense of discomfort right from the entry through its doors. Welcomed by genuinely welcoming staff greeting you as you walk through the security screening.
#HeartFelt is their hashtag and one cal tell from the body language, the energy, and the behavioral attitudes of the employees who have touched my stay, that it is indeed stemming from a deep well of feeling hospitable.
At The Oberoi, Mumbai, I see it as a sure sign of the teams passion for service to their guests. Their intense commitment to professionalism that stems from a desire to serve those that come into their hotel. It represents their wonderful energy that is never dull, never too overpowering and always driven towards those goals that make their job work towards a better experience for their visiting guests.
"Kokum Ice Tea - the "local favorite" (refreshing mint with Kokum seeped in Oberoi blend tea" is what the card on the tray read. What I was reading though was the heartfelt smile, hospitality seeped radiant welcoming energy of the gent greeting me.
Team Oberoi practices what they hashtag. A refreshing aside from many businesses where hashtags are only online verbiage to attract the masses, but the in-practice approach to their businesses another story altogether. I mentioned that the food has tones of red too. The Soufflé's above had it coming out in the fig and the richness of the chocolate as seen through the baked crust of the egg whites. The culinarians behind Fenix, are each proud and most dedicated, as is everyone, at least seemingly, that works at this hotel, and makes the stay of guests most wonderfully relaxed and fulfilling and restorative.
The red grand piano at the lobby is a most incredible show stopper for sure.
It is also wondrous symbol of all the good things that the Oberoi Group stands for, and all those wonderful things that humans aspire for, and a reminder of all that we must stay away from.
