Review of my 4th book, Instamatic, by Aasheesh Sharma for Mail Today by India Today.
Who needs meat when vegetarian fare can have such hefty meaty flavors deeply layered in each hearty bite? You will never find me complaining at an Indian vegetarian table. In fact, I might only ever be disappointed at an Indian table where vegetables have been wrongly and sadly neglected.
It is then no surprise that this dish, a simple dish of sun dried lentil dumplings and green peas in a spiced onion-tomato gravy, is Charlie's favorite dish.
The twists and turns that the dish takes, without twisting and turning the cook into unwarranted fuss of cooking, is nothing short of incredible. It is the journey of Indian cookery that one ought to always appreciate, understand, study and use to ones advantage in cooking.

When Smita and Rahul Bhaiya have cravings, I have to go down memory lane and ensure that what I prepare is the 'Best-Of" in that category. And so, when Smita asked for a tomato soup, I was put to task. Searching in my head, for the best versions of this ubiquitous and most generic of soups. Very quickly and rather assuredly, I came up with Mom's, Betty Osborne's and Wendy London's (Mrs. London's in Saratoga Springs, New York) as my favorite three versions of tomato soup.

Summer is over and so is my silence.
Autumn brings us a colorful blanket of tired leaves to the ground... and for me a Tapestry, woven of fresh flavors to lift spirits and celebrate the harvest memorably.
I cannot believe it has been 23 years since I moved to New York City! Bound for The School of Visual Arts to study graphic design and art history, I came as an impressionable and enthusiastic twenty year old. Less believable perhaps, is the fact that now I have spent more time here in New York than in my birthplace New Delhi. Today I continue to make home in New York -both in the city and at our upstate farm-and live my life still as smitten and energized by New York City as when I first arrived... still dreaming, living, hoping, and working like life is beautiful and the possibilities endless.
It is now November 29, 2012 in Singapore, and that means Suvir is celebrating his 40th!
Betty Osborne is a proud New Yorker (Brooklyn born and raised in LI and VT, now living in Upstate NY). NY is lucky to have her as its daughter. She is the kind of citizen that would make any nation or people proud. Happy to serve her own and those unknown. Service like this is not found today. People serve to serve their own type. Her's is a type that is So-American and yet today, So Un-American.
This post is devoted to the summer avian life present in Washington County and specifically at American Masala farm. My husband Peter & I enjoy birding so decided start a list of all the birds we saw and heard during our visit.
This is the stately prince of Masala Farm. I cannot remember his name but I think it is an indian name that means Prince...Now I can only wonder who really wears the pants at
Masala Farm!
This bird gets my vote!
Seeing him strut his stuff around the farm...like he owns the place.
